How I use SOL Connect…

A massive congratulations to the Friends of SOL after they were awarded a grant of £1,200 to carry on their excellent work at the SOL allotment.

The allotment is in the Forgewood area of Motherwell and is part of the Greenlink project that aims to regenerate a 7km cycle path from Strathclyde Park to Motherwell
town centre.

We have had the allotment for over a year now and it has been totally transformed by the work of Friends of SOL members Gary Ashe and Bernard Ruddy. When we took over the allotment it was overrun with weeds but with the hard work of Bernard we managed to get it up and running so we could plant vegetables including potatoes, runner beans and garlic.

Since Gary has joined the project we have seen a polytunnel being erected and now we are pleased to say that decking has been put down that will allow wheelchair access to the plot and we are also going to be installing raised flower beds so even more people can come along and join in the fun.

A very big thank you to Foundation Scotland for this additional money that will enable us to buy some vital equipment for the allotment.
